Wisdom of Whores

This website is "Elizabeth Pisani’s blog about HIV and other sundry things." I found the below video on it. Its gross when you first watch it, but then when you start thinking about it, it makes perfect sense. She is the author of "Wisdom of Whores: bureaucrats, brothels and the business of AIDS" According to Amazon.com she is an epidemiologist researching AIDS.

The title of the book is what caught my eye. But the subject matter is what will have me either buying it or checking it out from the local library when it is available.

Philosophy

Philosphy started out as best as I can figure as a type of science. An observational type of science, where the ancients would observe and theorize about how things work. Sometime in the Middle ages I think, science and philosphy split into two different discplines.

Philosophy I believe is now a strictly observational science. I am sure that there are plenty of philosophers out there that would disagree with me on it being a science at all.

I do know this. Philosphy is about thinking and writing down your thoughts, at least it is for me. I hope to go to school one day and study it. Right now I do a sort of ad hoc study of philosophy and philosophers. I read their writings and then I read what other people think they meant with their writings.

Annoyed

I work in call center for a major company. We have several TV's around the center and it seems like that all is ever on is Sports. No one cares about what is going on in the world or the political scene. It drives me nuts that we watch sports all the time.
